Cristian Stellini backs Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane after Everton “cheater” chants
Speaking in the post-match press conference as quoted by ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur coach Cristian Stellini came out in support of his talismanic striker Harry Kane, following chants from Everton fans calling him a cheat after his altercation with Abdoulaye Doucoure.
The incident led to Doucoure being sent off, which incensed the Merseyside faithful, leading to chants of “cheater” aimed at Kane. However, Stellini has defended his player and said that it was an obvious sending-off for the Everton midfielder.
Stellini was overseeing his first match as Spurs coach since the departure of Antonio Conte and had a mixed result in the 1-1 draw against Everton. Kane had given Spurs the lead from the penalty spot, but Michael Keane’s late equalizer cancelled out the advantage.
Stellini, who has taken the reins on a temporary basis, seemed unfazed by the criticism of his star striker and said that the fan reaction was normal. He pointed out that it was a clear red card for Doucoure and that the incident was just one of those things that happens in a game of football.
Speaking about the incident, here is what Stellini had to say and he backed his star striker to the hilt
“The fan [reaction] is normal. They are unhappy, but in my opinion it was a clear red card. It happens sometimes, it’s normal.”
It is not the first time that Kane has been accused of diving or cheating, and it is unlikely to be the last. The striker is a master at winning fouls and penalties, which often draws criticism from opposing fans.

However, that is what works for Kane so well. With regards to yesterday’s incident, there is absolutely no doubt that it was a red card. No one can fault the Englishman for that, although he did make sure that it would a card with his antics.
Kane’s importance to Tottenham Hotspur cannot be overstated. He has been the driving force behind their recent successes and is the man that the fans look to when they need inspiration.
