Tottenham Hotspur ready to break transfer record for Barcelona star Ansu Fati

Tottenham Hotspur are supposedly ready to break the club transfer record to bring Barcelona star Ansu Fati on board.

This is according to SPORT, who state that the Lilywhites are interested in two attacking players regardless of what happens with Harry Kane’s future at the club. Fati could be one of them.

Spurs are so eager to sign Fati that they are comfortable with paying more than the 62million Euros they paid Olympique Lyonnais to sign Tanguy Ndombele in the summer of 2019.

Barcelona apparently won’t discuss the 20-year-old’s future until the summer. He is struggling for playing time on a regular basis, with his father hinting that the player could leave Spotify Camp Nou if his situation doesn’t improve.

He has played in 41 games across competitions this term, which seems enough on paper. But those appearances have only amounted to 1,524 minutes.

Tactics?

Oftentimes, a player can be linked with another club in order to raise their hand in potential negotiations with their current team. Could Fati’s situation and links with Spurs be one such example?

That can’t be said for sure and it may not ever be confirmed. Fati’s inclusion in this team just doesn’t make sense right now.

As good as he is (and he is very good), Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison are already our options to play out wide. One would say that Fati can be brought in as an upgrade on Bryan Gil or a replacement for the exit-bound Lucas Moura.

But that is literally what he is trying to avoid at Barcelona – to be a second-rate player. Son is still 30 and has a few years left in him. Deki and Richy are in their 20s and are just approaching their peak. Let’s save the cash in case we need a Kane replacement.
