Borussia Monchengladbach confirms Tottenham Hotspur target Marcus Thuram will leave in the summer
Speaking to the club website, Borussia Monchengladbach’s club director has confirmed that Tottenham target Marcus Thuram will not be signing a new contract with the club.
Thuram’s versatility as a winger and striker has caught the eye of many clubs, and Tottenham should be no exception. With Richarlison struggling and Lucas Moura set to leave, Spurs will need to sign another attacker to bolster their options in the final third.
Thuram’s performances this season have been nothing short of sensational, with 22 goals and assists in 29 appearances in all competitions for Borussia Monchengladbach. His ability to make a difference in games has been evident this season.
Fans will be eagerly watching the developments surrounding Thuram’s future, as he prepares for his next move. Tottenham’s interest in the striker has been reported for some time now, and with his contract set to expire in June 2023.
Borussia Monchengladbach’s club director expressed disappointment that Thuram and Ramy Bensebaini, who is also set to leave on a free transfer, could not reach an agreement for a contract extension.
Speaking about the situation, here is what the director had to say about the disappointment with respect to the duo
“We were in open discussions with both players and knew the situation. It is a shame that they won’t be extending their current contracts, which expire in the summer, because both of them have given us a lot from a sporting perspective over the past four years. We also understand that our fans are disappointed that both of them aren’t staying”
The director acknowledged that the club’s approach has been to develop talented players and eventually allow them to move on, but ideally with a transfer fee. However, in this case, Thuram and Bensebaini will be leaving without the club receiving any transfer fee.
For Tottenham, the potential signing of Thuram would be a statement of intent as they look to compete with the top teams in the Premier League. His versatility and ability to make a difference in games would provide an added dimension to Spurs’ attack.
