Manchester City are ready to sell Tottenham Hotspur target Aymeric Laporte

According to Daily Mail, Manchester City will not stand in the way of talented Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte should he choose to leave the club in the summer.

Laporte has been a stalwart for City over the past few seasons, playing a key role in their backline. However, this season has seen him fall down the pecking order, with only seven Premier League starts to his name

His inclusion in the starting lineup against Leicester City on Saturday was a rare occurrence, as Guardiola rotated the team ahead of their Champions League fixture against Bayern Munich. It’s a sad state for a talented defender.

Despite reverting to a back three and fielding four centre-halves within that system, Laporte has still found game time hard to come by. This has left the 28-year-old frustrated and eager for a move away from the Etihad Stadium.

It is no secret that Tottenham are in need of a defensive overhaul this summer, and Laporte would be an excellent addition to their squad. The Spaniard has proven himself to be a top-class defender in the Premier League.

Laporte’s contributions to City’s recent success cannot be understated, particularly during last season’s run-in. Despite playing through the pain barrier, he helped his team hold off Liverpool and secure the title.

City are unlikely to stand in Laporte’s way if he decides to leave, as they have previously shown a willingness to let unhappy players move on. Last summer, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Jesus, and Raheem Sterling were all allowed to leave after presenting acceptable offers.

For Tottenham, Laporte would be a significant upgrade on their current defensive options. The likes of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Ben Davies are nowhere close to the levels that the Spaniard can show.

If Tottenham are to mount a serious challenge for the top four next season, they will need to improve their defensive record. Laporte would be a good place to start. Let’s see if we sign him.
