Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham scouts are attentive about Sporting CP’s Manuel Ugarte

Writing in his column for Caught Offside, popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham Hotspur are attentive about Manuel Ugarte.

The 22-year-old Uruguayan has impressed with his performances for the Portuguese club, catching the attention of scouts from various teams including Tottenham. He is extremely talented.

While it remains to be seen if Tottenham will make a move for Ugarte, it is clear that the young midfielder has the potential to make an impact at a bigger club in a more competitive league. He has the tools to do that.

For Spurs, a signing like Ugarte could be ideal as they look to rebuild and bring in some younger players who can give the team a better future. Midfield is an area that needs reinforcements for Spurs.

Speaking about the situation, here is what Romano had to say about Tottenham’s interest in Ugarte

“Manuel Ugarte has been linked again with Tottenham – these links are always there. I think it’s one or two years of Ugarte and Spurs links because Tottenham scouts are always attentive to Portuguese market, as with the Pedro Porro deal”

However, with the competition for a top-four finish in the Premier League getting tougher every season, it may be challenging for Tottenham to attract top talent like Ugarte without Champions League football.

Therefore, it is crucial for Spurs to push for a strong finish in the league and secure their place in Europe’s elite competition. However, qualifying for the top four from here is not going to be easy at all.

The potential signing of Ugarte could also signal a change in Tottenham’s transfer strategy. In recent years, the club has been criticized for its lack of investment in younger players and its over-reliance on star names.

However, with the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son approaching their thirties, the time has come for Spurs to start looking towards the future and building a team around promising young players.

Ugarte fits the bill perfectly, and his defensive midfield prowess could be just what Tottenham needs to add balance and stability to their midfield. Let’s hope we sign him.
