Tottenham Hotspur receive Liverpool boost in pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka

A report by Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo) has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are in a two-horse race for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka.

But Liverpool Echo, who are a local news outlet on Merseyside, have claimed that Ndicka is not on the list of the club’s targets right now. That is an obvious boost for Spurs.

It could mean that they have a clear path towards signing the 23-year-old defender. He is left-footed and a neat customer when in possession.

We can use a player like that to play as a left-centre-back in place of Ben Davies. Antonio Conte used to play a five-man backline and if we continue that under whoever our new manager is, then Ndicka would be a smart signing.

Smart move?

Even if we play four-at-the-back, the one-cap France U21 international will add much-needed depth to the Spurs rearguard. Cristian Romero is arguably our only world-class centre-back while Eric Dier has blown hot and cold over the years.

Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga always seem like they have a mistake in them while Joe Rodon has barely made a case on loan at Stade Rennais to become a starter for Tottenham on his return.

With all due respect to the defending UEFA Europa League champions, a move to Spurs could be seen as a step up for Ndicka – to a club with a ‘big six’ status playing against some of the best teams in the world.

The exposure is higher in the Premier League while Spurs are still in the race to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. Spurs harbour ambitions of being the country’s best club.

Joining us could be a lucrative prospect for a 23-year-old looking to make his name in European football and catch Didier Deschamps’ attention. His contract expires this summer (Transfermarkt) and he could leave as a free agent – which would make this deal a no-brainer for the Lilywhites.
