Ryan Mason comments on Tottenham Hotspur’s second-half performance vs Manchester United

Speaking to Football. London after the game against Manchester United, Ryan Mason, Tottenham Hotspur’s interim head coach, has expressed his pride in the team’s second-half performance in their recent match.

Spurs went into the break trailing by two goals against a resilient Manchester United side, but they showed great character to turn the game around in the second half. Mason was proud of his team for that.

Tottenham have been in very bad shape in recent weeks. Loss after loss has seen Cristian Stellini being removed from his post and Mason has taken up the position at least until the end of the season.

Although Tottenham were far from convincing last night, a 2-2 draw against Man United is not the end of the world. The Red Devils have been in superior form to the Lilywhites coming into this game.

It showed that this Tottenham team were resilient enough to fight back. Goals from Son-Heung Min and Pedro Porro was the reason Mason and his team could go back with their heads held high after the second half.

Speaking about the performance, here is what Ryan Mason had to say about his team and this should inspire confidence.

“Absolutely. Big character, big personalities, stuck together, kept believing and acted as a team throughout the whole game. That pleases me after what happened at the weekend because we probably didn’t have that as a group”

It is true that Tottenham needed to bounce back after that devastating 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Newcastle United. It was a game in which the club really got a reality check and realised how far they have fallen behind.

Mason’s comments suggest that he has a lot of faith in the Tottenham squad. Despite facing criticism from some quarters, the interim coach believes that the team has what it takes to compete at the highest level.

The second-half performance against Southampton is proof of this, and Mason will be hoping that his players can build on this momentum in the remaining fixtures of the season.
