Son Heung-min credits anger for Tottenham Hotspur comeback vs Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heun-min has credited the players’ anger at being down by two goals at the break for the comeback against Manchester United.

The Red Devils dominated the proceedings in the first half. Jadon Sancho opened the scoring for the visitors, while Marcus Rashford got the Old Trafford side’s second just before half-time.

Speaking via the BBC, the South Korea international admitted that the team were not happy with being behind. They used that as fuel for an inspiring performance in the second 45 minutes.

“We couldn’t let the game go. We were really angry about it, we didn’t deserve to be 2-0 down at half-time.

The last week was unacceptable and we didn’t want to repeat that. We feel really, really sorry for the performance and result and today we wanted to bring a good energy. We really appreciated [the fans’] support and they were fighting with us.”

After an abysmal outing against Newcastle United, where we conceded five goals in the first 25 minutes, the game against Man United felt like it was going in a similar direction.

Thankfully, Tottenham drastically improved after the break and had the Red Devils’ defence on the back foot for the majority of the second half. We created several opportunities before Pedro Porro found the back of the net with a brilliant strike.

Bruno Fernandes did have the chance to restore the Old Trafford side’s advantage but was unable to do so. Then, the North London side created multiple opportunities to equalise.

Finally, Harry Kane’s cross to Son in the 79th minute levelled the scoring. The South Korean looks to have found his feet once again in recent weeks.

The 30-year-old has not been his best in the current campaign. The former Bayer Leverkusen star has struggled to have a considerable impact for Tottenham in the 2022/23 season.

However, it remains to be seen how much the draw works in our favour in the race for the top four. We are still six points behind Man United, who have two games in hand over us. But still, Ryan Mason’s first game as interim boss after Cristian Stellini’s exit showed that we still have some life in our team.
