Tottenham Hotspur ‘interested’ in Salernitana and Mexico shot-stopper Guillermo Ochoa

Tottenham Hotspur are ‘interested’ in Guillermo Ochoa, who plays for Serie A outfit Salernitana and the Mexico national team, according to Azteca Deportes via Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Spurs are one of the teams in the English top flight eyeing a move for the 37-year-old in the upcoming transfer window. Premier League rivals Chelsea and Aston Villa also have the shot-stopper on their radar.

Ochoa made his way to the Italian outfit in January 2023 from CF America on a short deal. The goalkeeper’s current contract with the Granata is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

The 37-year-old has been a journeyman during his career. Over the years, the Mexican has played for the likes of Ajaccio, Standard Liege, Granada and Malaga, amongst other teams.

However, Ochoa is most known for his displays for Mexico. The shot-stopper is a veteran of his national side. He has taken part in three World Cups for El Tri and has caught a lot of people’s attention.

At Salernitana, the 37-year-old has established himself as the number one. As things stand, the Serie A outfit are outside the relegation zone in the league. The Salerno-based club want the Mexican to extend his stay at the club.

Hugo Lloris has been Tottenham’s first choice for over a decade now. His performances in recent years have not been up to par. As a result, the North London side are looking for the French national’s replacement.

Spurs have Fraser Forster in their ranks as the backup. He was signed in the summer of 2022 after the English national left Southampton. However, at 35, he is not getting any younger.

However, Ochoa is not an up-and-coming potential star either. He is older than both Lloris and Forster. Therefore, it does not make sense for Tottenham to pursue him. Instead of the Mexican, it would be wise for us to sign someone younger.
