Barcelona honcho Mateu Alemany looking to sort Clement Lenglet sale to Tottenham before he leaves
According to Spanish publication Sport, Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany is looking to sort out the sale of Tottenham Hotspur loanee Clement Lenglet before he leaves the club in the summer.
The Frenchman was brought in on loan as a temporary solution to the club’s defensive woes, but his performances have impressed enough for the Spurs management enough to consider a permanent deal.
While the status of the deal is currently unclear, Tottenham are reportedly keen to keep Lenglet beyond his loan spell. In fact, they have already entered into advanced negotiations with Barcelona to secure his signature for good.
The Catalan club is looking to free up their wage bill, and with Lenglet not featuring in their long-term plans, they are happy to part ways with the defender. Sporting director Mateu Alemany is set to leave Barcelona soon and is reportedly looking to sort out Lenglet’s future before his departure.
Lenglet’s current market value is estimated to be around €12m, a reasonable sum for a defender of his calibre. The 26-year-old has shown his class during his time at Barcelona, playing a key role in their domestic and European campaigns.
He is a commanding presence at the back, and his experience in top-flight football would be an asset to Tottenham’s backline. He has performed decently well in the summer and seems to like the Premier League.
Tottenham has had a mixed season so far, with their defence being a particular area of concern. They have already been linked with several other defenders but Lenglet gives them much-needed squad depth.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham will be able to secure Lenglet’s services, but it is clear that they are very interested in doing so. The club is keen to make the necessary signings in the upcoming transfer window to become more competitive.
