It is still possible for Dejan Kulusevski to return to Juventus after Tottenham Hotspur loan

Tottenham Hotspur signed Dejan Kulusevski on an 18-month loan in the winter transfer window of the 2021-22 season from Juventus.

According to the Express, they were expected to make the move permanent last summer but excessive spending on other transfer arrivals meant the plan was postponed. Spurs have a conditional obligation to buy Kulusevski for 31million Pounds.

That will apparently be activated if the Sweden international plays more than 45 minutes in 50% of Spurs’ games this season and additionally, the club must qualify for the UEFA Champions League. The first part isn’t a problem.

He has played more than 45 minutes in 22 of his 27 league appearances for Spurs this season. Considering Spurs will play a maximum of 38 Premier League games, that criterion is fulfilled.

Surprise, surprise

But it is the second part that will be a problem as Spurs sit sixth in the league with 57 points from 35 games. They trail fourth-placed Manchester United, who have a game in hand, by six points.

Even then, there is an option for Tottenham to make the deal permanent, but keep in mind, in such a situation, it wouldn’t be an obligation. And according to Italian outlet Il Bianconero, there is a chance that Kulusevski could return to the Allianz Stadium this summer.

They go on to claim that the Swede will not want to return to Juve and will hope for a permanent transfer to Spurs. It is surprising we have let it come to this, but thankfully, it seems that things are in our hands when it comes to making his deal permanent.

Of course, a lot can change between now and the start of next season. Deki was signed under Antonio Conte – a manager well-versed with Juventus and Serie A. What if our next coach, whoever it may be, doesn’t want Kulusevski on board?

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

That is a situation hard to imagine. In any scenario, it wouldn’t make sense to let him leave and weaken our frontline. Finding a player like Deki, who is still just 23, for the aforementioned fee will be a hard, hard ask. It is very important that Spurs pay the cash and the mercurial winger their own this summer. The fans will be enraged otherwise.
