Manchester United ‘huge admirers’ of Tottenham Hotspur target Kim Min-jae

Manchester United are said to be ‘huge admirers’ of Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae, who is also on the radar of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

This is according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who exclusively wrote for CaughtOffside:

“Manchester United are huge admirers of Napoli’s Kim Min-jae. They have been scouting him for much of the season and exploring a deal since the World Cup break.

“But this one is not a done deal yet, and Kim has been pretty vocal shouting down speculation of a Premier League move, albeit before Napoli won the Scudetto. I would term the transfer a realistic possibility. Spurs and Liverpool have looked at Kim as well.”

Jacobs also mentioned that Kim wants to first understand Napoli’s new offer and if Luciano Spalletti will stay at the club. The Italian manager has already stated that he wants a year-long sabbatical.

Spurs must win the race

Kim arrived in Naples from Fenerbahce last summer after Kalidou Koulibaly’s move to Chelsea left the Serie A giants in need of a new centre-back. He has done exceptionally well.

Napoli’s gamble on the South Korean international has paid off in a huge manner. He has helped them win the Scudetto in his debut season.

Jacobs adds that Kim has a 50million Euros release clause in his contract that only runs from July 1 to July 15. That is a small window, and it remains to be seen if Napoli edit it out or change it if they get him to sign fresh terms.

That would seem logical because that amount for the 26-year-old seems like a fair price. He is big, strong, defensively very intelligent and can lead the line pretty well – all the qualities we need in a new centre-back right now.

Eric Dier has been painfully average at times and Cristian Romero honestly needs a better partner. Min-jae, who is also teammates with Son Heung-min for South Korea, could be our very own Giorgio Chiellini or Virgil van Dijk – a defender capable of manning the backline with conviction and effectiveness.

But for that, we have to be wary that other teams are interested in him and try to strike when the chance arises.
