“We expected that”- Ryan Mason complains about Leeds United’s pitch despite Tottenham win

Ryan Mason complains about Leeds United pitch despite Tottenham Hotspur win

Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Ryan Mason was unhappy with Leeds United’s pitch despite his team’s 4-1 Premier League win on the final day of the league season.

Spurs travelled to Elland Road knowing they did not have their fate in their own hands when it came to qualifying for Europe. Eventually, we finished eighth and missed out on UEFA Europa Conference League football.

But the performance on the pitch was excellent. We took the lead in the second minute through Harry Kane and Pedro Porro doubled the lead two minutes into the start of the second half.

Jack Harrison pulled one back around the 67th minute but Kane instantly scored his second of the game and 30th league goal of the season to put the game to bed. Lucas Moura said goodbye to Spurs fans in style with a stunning solo goal in stoppage time.

What next for Spurs?

After the game, Mason complained about the length of the pitch and there being no water. He said, via BBC MOTD:

“The pitch was longer than I’ve seen in a Premier League game. There was no water on it. We expected that. To play the football we did… I thought the first goal was outstanding and we had some excellent passages of play. Our front players were outstanding again and to score four away from home was a massive positive.”

As Mason said, it was expected. Leeds would do everything they can to make it tough for the visiting side. Less water on the pitch goes against the dominant team who want to play flowing football.

But it was still fair and equal for both teams. We prevailed in the end so it doesn’t really matter. It’s not a very smart thing to bring up after the game.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

He probably wanted to add a bow to the performance and make a case to Daniel Levy, who is in the process of finding our new permanent head coach. Nevertheless, an important summer of rebuilding awaits. It will be hard to attract big names though, with no European football to offer.
