Tottenham Hotspur defender Destiny Udogie “ready” for Premier League after Udinese loan

Destiny Udogie, who is set to return to Tottenham Hotspur after spending the 2022/23 season on loan at Udinese, feels he is ready for the Premier League.

The 20-year-old featured for the Dacia Arena side in the final games of the season against Juventus in Serie A. However, the full-back was on the end of a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Massimiliano Allegri’s team.

Speaking to the media via Calciomercato, Udogie thanked Udinese after the last fixture before his move to the North London side. However, the Italy U21 international is up for the challenge in the English top flight.

“I have to thank the club so much for having invested and believed in me over these two seasons. I can’t say anything but thank you. I knew my qualities, I just wanted to express them and Udinese gave me this great chance. I’m ready for the future and for the Premier League.”

The 20-year-old made his way to the Dacia Arena side in the summer of 2021. After impressing at the Italian outfit, Tottenham acquired the youngster’s services last summer and then sent him back on loan.

Udogie was pivotal for Udinese this season. He made 34 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A side in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing four assists.

The Italian mostly played as a wing-back for the Friulani. While the youngster’s attacking prowess is admirable in the final third of the pitch, he leaves a lot to be desired at the back at times.

Tottenham have used the likes of Ryan Sessegnon, Ivan Perisic and Ben Davies on the left-hand side of the defence in the current campaign. However, none of them have been able to make a considerable impact.

The Croatian has not looked comfortable playing as a full-back at the North London side. Overall, our backline has been shaky and we have struggled to keep it tight, leaking several goals.

Udogie is still young and has a lot to learn. However, the Italian possesses a ton of potential. But it remains to be seen whether Spurs will give the 20-year-old regular opportunities or will opt to send him on another temporary move.
