Tottenham target Caoimhin Kelleher’s international manager hints at summer transfer

Tottenham Hotspur could be set to make a move for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher this summer, as his international manager Stephen Kenny suggests a departure from Anfield may be on the horizon.

Kelleher, who has been associated with Liverpool since his days in the club’s youth ranks, has yet to establish himself as a regular starter for the Reds. Despite his limited opportunities, the Irish shot-stopper has showcased his abilities and left a lasting impression whenever he has been called upon.

One performance that particularly stands out is his commendable display in last season’s Carabao Cup final triumph against Chelsea. However, with the formidable Alisson Becker standing firmly as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper, it seems that the time has come for Kelleher to seek regular playing time elsewhere.

Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in acquiring the services of the 24-year-old as they seek a long-term successor to their current custodian, Hugo Lloris. It is not only Tottenham who have shown interest, as Brighton and Brentford are also believed to be keen on securing Kelleher’s signature.

Despite Kelleher’s role as a backup goalkeeper, it is evident that he is highly regarded by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Klopp has made it clear that it would take an extraordinary offer to tempt the Reds into parting ways with the talented shot-stopper.

Now, Kelleher’s international manager, Stephen Kenny, has shed light on the situation, revealing his assumption that the young goalkeeper will indeed be moving on this summer. In fact, Kenny believes that this change of scenery will only prove beneficial for Kelleher, who is eager to gain more playing time.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Kenny expressed his thoughts about Kelleher

“It looks like he will be on the move this summer. And it can only benefit him because he needs to play games. He has been starved of games this year, and that has been a problem for him.”

Tottenham Hotspur, with their ambition to challenge for top honours, presents an enticing destination for Kelleher. The opportunity to work alongside experienced players and under the guidance of a top-class coaching staff could prove instrumental in his growth as a goalkeeper.
