Arsenal join Tottenham Hotspur in Victor Nelsson race
According to Turkish outlet Fanatik (h/t Football. London), Arsenal have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race for talented young defender Victor Nelsson.
Tottenham Hotspur had long been tracking Nelsson’s progress, but now they face stiff competition from their neighbours, the Gunners, as they look to bolster their defensive options.
Nelsson, currently plying his trade at Fenerbahce, has been making waves since his move from FC Copenhagen to Galatasaray back in August 2021. The Danish international has quietly established himself as one of the most underrated defenders in Europe over the past two seasons.
With 80 appearances under his belt for Galatasaray, Victor Nelsson has proved himself to be a reliable figure at the heart of the defence. While his main duties revolve around stifling opposition attacks, the 24-year-old Dane has also contributed two goals and one assist to his team’s cause.
Tottenham’s interest in Nelsson comes as no surprise. Under Antonio Conte’s guidance, the defensive unit has struggled, highlighting the need for reinforcements. With Cristian Romero being the sole dependable central defender, the acquisition of Nelsson would undoubtedly bolster their backline.
On the other hand, Arsenal’s pursuit of a new centre-back is not as pressing. However, after enduring difficulties in the absence of William Saliba during the past season, signing a right-footed centre-back has become a sensible objective for the Gunners.
Yet, Arsenal and Tottenham are not the only clubs vying for Nelsson’s signature. Sevilla, a team known for their astute transfer dealings, has also expressed their interest in the talented defender.
