Newcastle United leapfrog Tottenham in James Maddison race

According to Sky Sports, Newcastle United have emerged as the frontrunners in the pursuit of Leicester City’s star midfielder, James Maddison, who Tottenham Hotspur also want.

The recent appointment of Ange Postecoglou had sparked hopes among Spurs faithful that the Australian manager would sanction the signing of the highly sought-after playmaker. Tottenham have wanted him for a very long time.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle has surprisingly taken the lead in the race for James Maddison’s signature. The Magpies’ interest in the midfielder can be traced back to last summer when they made two unsuccessful bids for his services.

Leicester City held firm, demanding a fee of £60 million for their prized asset, a valuation that Newcastle failed to meet with their last offer of around £50 million. However, the club could not get it done.

It’s no secret that Newcastle possesses considerable financial resources, and their qualification for the prestigious Champions League only enhances their appeal to potential signings. James Maddison has rightfully earned his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most exceptional midfield talents.

Season after season, he has consistently dazzled with his performances, becoming a key figure for Leicester City. His contributions on the field have been nothing short of outstanding and his quality needs him playing for a bigger club.

Despite Leicester City’s somewhat underwhelming campaign this season, Maddison remained a shining star in their lineup, showcasing his immense skill and creativity. Playing for a Champions League club will surely be of interest to the 26-year-old English international.

Fans of Tottenham Hotspur will undoubtedly be disappointed by this latest turn of events. The prospect of seeing Maddison grace the pitch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, orchestrating the midfield and providing goals and assists, was an enticing one.
