Supercomputer predicts Tottenham Hotspur to finish fifth in the Premier League

The fantastic start to the season by Tottenham went completely off-track due to a number of issues. Injuries to crucial players with a few others serving suspensions all came up at the wrong time for Ange Postecoglou.

The high-line constant press style of play certainly revealed that second and third-choice players did not fit the system well, showcasing why they held the positions of second and third-choice. The recent matchup against Newcastle United saw that run of winless games come to an end with a comprehensive 4-1 win for the Lilywhites.

However, as per the calculations of a supercomputer, Spurs cannot resurrect their campaign to an extent wherein they finish in a UEFA Champions League spot. As per Opta Analyst, the best Tottenham can do from now on is a solid fifth-placed finish.

This makes us wonder if Paul Merson has a time machine. The Arsenal legend, back in October, envisioned Tottenham’s season faltering at some point after a stainless start. Here is what he told Metro two months ago about the Lilywhites’ chances in the league:

“So fair play to them, they are top of the league at the moment – will they stay there? No, but that is not the point. If they were to get in the Champions League next season, then that would be an unbelievable season for Tottenham.”

Possibilities

Fair play Merse. Agreed we did not stay at the top of the league for long. However, our players shall soon return from their respective layoffs and ruling Tottenham out of the reckoning for a Champions League spot is probably making a call too early.

The dynamics of the Premier League can change rapidly, and Spurs may yet certainly stage a strong resurgence in the coming matches and that probably started with the win against the Magpies.

Tottenham put up a strong display against a formidable Newcastle side.

As the season progresses, the resilience and adaptability of Ange Postecoglou’s squad will surely be put to the test. While the supercomputer offers a glimpse into potential outcomes, the unpredictability of football means there’s always room for surprises and turnarounds.
