Tottenham star James Maddison reacts as Richarlison scores against Newcastle United
Returning very recently from injury, Tottenham striker Richarlison made the best use of his starting against Newcastle United. The 26-year-old scored two goals in a 4-1 win for the Lilywhites making it their first win in the last five games.
A groin surgery kept him out of action for 23 days. The clash against the Magpies was Richarlison’s first start since October when he played 64 minutes of a 2-1 win against London rivals Crystal Palace.
James Maddison was extremely happy to see his mate get back on the scoresheet after quite a while and made his feelings clear via an Instagram story. Madders himself remains sidelined due to an ankle injury inflicted in the 4-1 loss to Chelsea back in the first week of November.
The win against Newcastle served as a morale boost for both the players and the fans, addressing some of the concerns raised during the team’s recent winless run.
Oh, when the Spurs go marching in!
The victory was particularly crucial for Tottenham and manager Ange Postecoglou, providing a glimpse of the team’s potential when the attacking elements click seamlessly. The performance against Newcastle showcased the attacking prowess that somewhat saw itself stifled in the preceding matches, offering hope for a more consistent and potent display in the upcoming fixtures.
While the win was a cause for celebration, it also highlighted the reactionary nature of football fandom. Calls for a total rebuild at Spurs, overlooking the injury crisis that forced Postecoglou to adapt and improvise across various positions on the pitch now have a slap on their faces.
As Richarlison‘s return injects a new dimension into Tottenham’s attacking dynamics, the Lilywhites will aim to build on this victory and regain momentum in the Premier League.
