Tottenham Hotspur plan to land Man United academy product James Garner

Tottenham Hotspur are easing their interest in Conor Gallagher to revive their interest in James Garner, per The Express (h/t Team Talk). According to the report, Spurs will attempt to bring the Everton midfielder to North London ahead of the new season.

Having progressed through Manchester United’s ranks, Garner joined Everton in search of more playing time. The switch proved beneficial for the 22-year-old as he has been virtually ‘ever-present’ for Sean Dyche’s side.

The hardworking midfielder will be a fine addition to Ange Postecoglou’s ranks. The Aussie boss managed to fortify his attacking and defensive units by signing Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin in January. That leaves a spot open in midfield.

James Garner’s potential makes him eligible to play for one of the ‘Big Six’. Spurs seem to be an ideal destination for the youngster who has proven his billing for club and country at youth levels.

The Gallagher pursuit

Tottenham were heavily linked with Chelsea’s stand-in captain Conor Gallagher throughout the winter window. Even though the move did not materialise in January, it is tipped that Spurs will re-attempt the procedures in the summer.

However, the ‘Garner news’ sends a message that Spurs might not pursue Gallagher with the same interest. The reason behind the same could be Chelsea’s confusion with their starman. Gallagher has been phenomenal for Pochettino this season.

Not only has he been fit and available for his manager but also performing at an impressive rate. Despite these, Pochettino might have to swallow the hard pill and sell Gallagher for the sake of their balance sheet. Chelsea will have to act before the summer window shuts as the 24-year-old will be running out of contract by June 2025.

This means they will have to find a suitor for the midfielder this summer, let him go for free the next year, or provide him a contract extension. With James Garner in the picture, it will be ideal for Chelsea to not rely on Tottenham Hotspur completely.
