Tottenham star Richarlison ‘accidentally’ ranted his heart out to Antonio Conte
Football London shares a hilarious story from Tottenham Hotspur’s team meeting where Richarlison ‘accidentally’ spoke his mind out to Antonio Conte. The source of the story is Emerson Royal and Richarlison himself, who were speaking with Brazilian YouTuber Fred via the Desimpedidos channel.
The video, however, provides a glimpse of a longer version which will be released this month. Emerson Royal narrated the story in which Richarlison arrived late for a team meeting. This urged the then Tottenham manager Antonio Conte to ask whether he (Richarlison) had something to say to the team.
Richarlison, without realising Conte’s expectation, which was an obvious apology towards him and the team for arriving late, took the manager’s question quite literally and used it to vent himself out. The Brazilian was playing out of his predominant position due to Harry Kane’s presence.
The former Everton man didn’t get enough playing time and had hit a goal drought. He was clearly unhappy with his position, the tactics, the formation, in short, almost everything.
The heart of the matter
A frustrated Richarlison took the opportunity to speak his heart out and started with, ‘I need more minutes’. He went on to rant, ‘This formation is no good’, ‘I didn’t adapt’, ‘this formation is (swears)’. Richarlison’s ‘out-of-the-blue’ response provoked teammates to giggle behind him.
Royal recalls the event by saying:
“He arrived late at the meeting on the day of the game, and the guy [Conte] said ‘do you have something to say to the team? Do you want to apologize to the team?’,” remembered Emerson while laughing. “He asked the other guys who had arrived late too, the guys said ‘no, just sorry’, then I don’t know what got into [Richarlison].
Richarlison joined his teammate in reminiscing about the funny event by adding:
“I started talking, then the guys behind started laughing and I said what am I doing here? I didn’t understand what he had asked, I started saying what I had already rehearsed.”
