Tottenham broke the record for most passes completed at home

Tottenham Hotspur set a new standard for themselves against Crystal Palace and broke a record in the process, according to Football London. Ange Postecoglou’s men registered 732 passes against The Eagles, breaking their own record for most passes in the top flight at home.

The previous record came this season itself when Tottenham Hotspur completed 717 passes in their defeat against West Ham United in December. Cristian Romero (124), Yves Bissouma (115) and Micky van de Ven (100) accumulated 339 passes out of the 732.

The trio combined to contribute 46.31 per cent of the team’s total pass count. This shows Tottenham’s prowess in playing from behind. They came from behind to overturn the away team’s lead to seal the deal 3-1 by full-time.

While 732 passes helped Spurs register the record at ‘home’, it is their second-best in the history of the Premier League era, considering both home and away games. Their best-ever is 747 passes completed in a 3-0 win at Cardiff City on 1st January 2019.

A force to be reckoned with

Tottenham Hotspur has become an attacking threat under Ange Postecoglou. The Lilywhites enjoyed a major share of possession during the Palace game, helping them achieve the aforementioned milestone. Spurs enjoyed 78 per cent possession of the ball during the game and 82 per cent in the first half itself.

It seems the Crystal Palace fixture is special for Tottenham as another milestone was achieved in the reverse fixture. Cristian Romero became the Spurs player with the most passes completed (141) in a Premier League game since the data collection started in 2003/04.

The north Londoners held their grounds despite trailing the game until the 76th minute. Timo Werner’s first-ever goal for the club was the cherry on top from the outing. The Lilywhites face Aston Villa in a crucial fixture next weekend, as both battle it out for the fourth spot in the Premier League this season.
