Are Tottenham looking to bring in Giorgi Mamardashvili?

Tottenham recently replaced seasoned goalkeeper Hugo Lloris with Guglielmo Vicario, who has been in great form all season. It then, comes as a shock to see the link being formed between Spurs and Giorgi Mamardashvili.

While the Georgian goalkeeper has a stellar reputation because of the performances he has had in Rubén Baraja’s team this season, the sports management is already looking for a replacement. Despite this, Mamardashvili remains certain that he will leave Valencia this summer and the club will already have a replacement.

The Valencia board is looking to make money this season, and selling Mamardashvili is a sure shot way of doing that. Tottenham have emerged as a club which is interested. This is according to Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo. With transfers being a top priority for Spurs, this would be a plausible situation. However, Vicario’s recent incoming doesn’t fit quite right in this situation.

Mestalla’s current financial crisis may have also triggered this move from the club’s end. The goalkeeper also has a 100 million euro transfer release clause which is an astronomical amount, to say the least.

Are Valencia likely to let go?

Mamardashvili is definitely a future project with a lot of potential. If rumours are anything to go by, the case of his leaving is nearly a closed one. The Valencian board also wants to take advantage of all the talents that the Tajonar quarry is generating and sell them at high prices. Mamardashvili’s departure is more or less assured in that scenario.

However, teams like Real Madrid and Chelsea are also very interested in him, so there is no way to say for sure whether Tottenham will make the grab.

While the departure of Mamardashvili is confirmed, it would be very unlikely to see his entry to Tottenham. Postecoglou’s work on Vicario has been phenomenal and so has the young goalkeeper’s performances. It would thus be quite shocking if they decide to replace him at this point.
