Out of favor? Emerson Royal’s future uncertain at Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur full-back Emerson Royal has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane in the upcoming summer transfer window as the North Londoners plot a summer overhaul of the roster at Ange Postecoglou’s disposal.
The Lilywhites signed Emerson Royal from Spanish giants Barcelona in a highly anticipated deal for £25.8 million in 2021. However, the Brazil international hasn’t been able to replicate his Spanish top-tier form in the English top-tier.
Royal is one of the players who has lost his place in the starting eleven under the Australian gaffer. While the former Barcelona ace started the season as first-choice right-back, Pedro Porro has taken over his position, and the 25-year-old has been unable to make it back into his preferred role. He did make twenty-one Premier League appearances this season; however, the majority of those came in covering roles at the centre-back and left-back positions.

While Emerson Royal is considered surplus to the demands at Hotspur Way, a possible sale would ensure that the club can invest the money into new recruitments.
Royal has been linked with multiple clubs for a possible move in the summer transfer window with AC Milan, subject to major interest in his services. Alongside the Italian giants, Bayern Munich have also expressed interest in the 25-year-old, per Tom Barclays.
He would be the third player in as many windows to move from Spurs to Bayern Munich, following in the footsteps of Harry Kane and Eric Dier.
