One of the crazier transfer rumours to have come out recently is with regards to a swap deal between Everton and Tottenham. While the Toffees have not continued their great start to the season and recently lost to Liverpool, there have been a number of critics for Ross Barkley.
Tottenham too have had a bit of a stop-start season this time around and many have questioned the signings of Mauricio Pochettino and Moussa Sissoko is the one player that stands out in terms of criticism.
The French international was brought to the club at the start of the season from Newcastle United but has failed to live up to expectations. The midfielder and Barkley are stated to be involved in a swap deal between the clubs according to the Mirror.
Both players are supposedly worth £30m and with Ronald Koeman already dropping Barkley a couple of times this season, his patience seems to have run out. The England midfielder, who earns £60,000 a week (via Guardian) has been poor this season but has shown glimpses of what he actually could do on the pitch.
Sissoko, for his part, has only had one good game this season but barring that, he has been average, to say the least.
Tottenham are the winners in this deal
If this deal does take place, Tottenham would be the happier of the two sides. The London club would be getting a younger player who has bag loads of talent. Barkley was one of the better players for the Toffees last season and it is a bit of a surprise seeing him struggle under Koeman.
The Dutch manager doesn’t mind taking in players who aren’t the youngest ones after signing Yannick Bolasie and Ashley Williams for Everton this season and maybe Sissoko is the man to solve their midfield problems, especially with Gareth Barry also getting a little older.
The swap deal, however, would put a huge question mark on the transfer policy of Tottenham. The London club splashed a lot of cash bringing in Sissoko but he struggled to perform and many had already raised flags about bringing the Frenchman to the club.
Speaking of transfer policies, if Everton are to let go of Barkley, it would be a major blow for a side that had expected the youngster to stay at the club for a while. There was also talk of building a team around the Englishman but this seems to have gone out of the window.
The swap deal certainly is a good option for Tottenham but it will be a matter of time to see if this actually does takes place.
