It seems like Real Madrid have made Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli as their main transfer target for the summer. The news of the Spanish club’s interest in Alli does not come as a surprise, but it is interesting to know that president Florentino Perez will be going all out to bring in the 20-year-old. A few days ago, reports emerged about Real Madrid shirt sponsor Adidas urging the club to sign Alli. One of the hottest young prospects in world football, the 20-year-old has made an incredible impression this season. Just when it seemed that last season was an incredible campaign from the England midfielder, he has stepped up his game even further and scored 11 goals in 21 games.
And now, the Express Sport has mentioned that Madrid are expected to come in with an offer in excess of £50 million for the player in the summer, who still has a contract with the club until the summer of 2022.
Alli was once again an important player for Tottenham during the weekend as he helped the team to get a 2-2 draw against Manchester City. Alli pulled one back before Son Heung-Min came up with an equaliser. Even though Alli could be criticised of being anonymous in the first half, his ability to come up with a goal at a crucial time is a quality that every club would like to have in the team.
Real Madrid recently fell behind Manchester United in the Deloitte money table and the club are reportedly keen on getting back to the top of the table. In order to do so, the club could improve the negotiations for more TV money but this will not be reflected until a few years later. In the immediate term, the club can provide a massive jump in finances and revenue by increasing the commercial aspect of the club. Madrid are one of the biggest clubs in the world in terms of commercial revenue and it is by possessing an incredible shirt sales record.
The presence of superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale makes it possible for Madrid to sell shirts across the globe in huge numbers. Bringing in an upcoming hot star like Alli would add to the squad in this regard quite impressively. However, Alli also brings the positivity of improving the squad, which has certainly looked stale in the absence of Gareth Bale over the last few months. Manager Zinedine Zidane has been adopting a new formation at the club with Cristiano Ronaldo not being the entire focus of the club’s attack. As a result, that is more pressure on other players to score goals and they are not chipping in at the moment.
Furthermore, the club also have to replace ageing players like Ronaldo and Luka Modric not too far in the distant future.
