Pochettino Turns His Attention Towards Inter Milan Midfielder And Former Chelsea Target

published :

Geoffrey Kondogbia

Tottenham did not show much interest when Morgan Schneiderlin was available to sign in the January transfer window. The Manchester United midfielder was subjected to heavy transfer interest from Tottenham back in the summer. Yet, manager Mauricio Pochettino seemed happy with his current complement of defenders at White Hart Lane. This status appears to have changed in the last few weeks, as the club have been taking plenty of interest in Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, as per the latest from according to Tutto Mercato (via talkSPORT)

This is not the first time Kondogbia has been linked with a move to the Premier league. He has been a target for Chelsea for quite a while. The defensive midfielder may struggle to get regular first-team opportunities at Chelsea due to the presence of N’Golo Kante. The growing stature of the Frenchman at West London has been a major factor behind the blues cooling the interest in Kondogbia. Spurs are ready to take advantage of the situation by making an offer for the player in the summer. The midfielder will certainly not come for cheap, as his contract does not run out until the summer of 2020.

He has been a regular first-team player for Inter Milan this season. This is especially true since the appointment of Stefano Pioli. The midfielder played only in five games under Frank de Boer, even though the former Ajax manager only had a short spell at the San Siro, but he has featured in 16 league matches under Stefano Pioli. Kondogbia has been able to score one goal in these games.

Our Verdict

Kondogbia would make an excellent signing for Tottenham, and he would strengthen the competition for places in the midfield.

Kondogbia will not come for cheap, as Spurs will have to pay another £30 million in order to sign him. Yet, age is on the side of the 24-year-old who is yet to hit the peak of his career.
