Tottenham’s challenge for the Premier League crown all but came to an end against West Ham. The Lilywhites were chasing a 10th consecutive league win but the Hammers ensured Chelsea can wrap up the title in the next two games thanks to a 1-0 win.

Manuel Lanzini got the only goal of the game in the second half but more than the victory, it was the inability of Tottenham to break through a Hammers side that has struggled to perform under Slaven Bilic in recent games.

Mauricio Pochettino fielded a strong side but the players looked bereft of ideas at the London Stadium and could not close the gap down to Chelsea to just one point.

Jamie Redknapp was analysing the performance of Spurs and came to a conclusion that they needed a couple of players who would give the London club the X factor when it came to breaking down teams away from home.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder said:

“I think in the summer maybe they’ll reflect and look for that bit of X factor that can open the door sometimes, particularly away from home.”

The former England international also added that he understood why Wilfried Zaha and Ross Barkley have been linked with Spurs.

“As a manager you want someone; that’s why they’re talking about a Wilfried Zaha or a Ross Barkley, someone who can do something different.

“Because when you’re at White Hart Lane, you get a lot of possession, but sometimes on the break you need someone to unlock the door. Son didn’t have his best night, and West Ham defended brilliantly. But I think it’s that killer instinct that Spurs have got to find from somewhere.”

Spurs don’t really have a lot of quality when it comes to their bench strength and Redknapp does make sense with the two players he has suggested.

Tottenham would certainly be looking to add at least one of the two linked and the summer should see a lot of players coming in and going out from the Lilywhites as they look to go one better than they have this season.
