According to reports in France, Spurs have offered Nice winger Vincent Marcel a five-year contract. The France U20 international impressed in Ligue 1 last season, as Nice qualified for the Champions League. French media outlet Foot Mercato, believes that Spurs are closing in on Marcel.
ESPN’s Dan Kilpatrick though, has claimed that no deal has been made between Spurs and Nice for the player. However, he did confirm that the player is a target of the North-London club.
If Marcel does sign for Spurs, then they will be hoping that he makes more of an impact than Clinton Njie and Georges-Kevin N’koudou – two young wingers who signed for the club from Ligue1 in recent years. Both, have failed to make the impact that had been expected of them.
Last term, Nice had their best campaign in many years. Julien Favre masterminded a title challenge, with his team eventually finishing in the Champions League positions. The signing of bad boy Mario Balotelli paid off. Much to the surprise of most.
However, the talent at the club has not gone unnoticed and Marcel could lead an exodus of players to leave. Nice can’t compete with the sort of money that Premier League sides can offer. They may be tempted to cash in on one or two of their prized assets this summer, whilst their market value is at an all-time high.
Spurs are actively pursuing many options right now, many of them from Ligue1. They are in the market for another full-back – should Kyle Walker join Manchester City. Further, a midfield back-up is also a priority and a back-up for striker Harry Kane is needed as well.
20-year old Marcel, was born in Guadeloupe. He has represented the France U19 and U20 teams, making 2 appearances so far for the latter. He only made his Ligue1 debut on August 14th 2016, against Stade Rennais.
Many media outlets have been leading with rumours that Marcel is on his way to North London. Mauricio Pochettino’s side appear to be the clear front-runners to secure his signature.
