Tottenham place formal €18m bid to sign World Cup semi-finalist from Turkish club

published :

According to Turkish outlet A Spor, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Croatia star Domagoj Vida. Tottenham have also made a €18million bid for the 29-year-old defender, reports A Spor.

Vida has been one of the stalwarts for Croatia as they prepare to face England for a place in the World Cup final. His prolific displays in defence have seen him get linked with a move away from the Turkish league.

The Besiktas defender has featured in four of Croatia’s five World Cup matches this summer, being rested against Iceland in his country’s final group game and even scoring in Croatia’s quarter-final win over hosts Russia.

Spurs have made an offer for Vida, who only joined Besiktas on a free transfer from Dynamo Kiev back in January. But the report claims the Turkish giants are asking for €30million for their ace defender, who is now set to go head to head with Harry Kane when Croatia take on England in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

With Toby Alderweireld expected to depart our club this summer, Mauricio Pochettino must bring in a central defender. Vida fits the bill perfectly as his experience and pedigree would help our club in all competitions next season.

The Croatian international would be a decent option to have at the back but he perhaps would not be a first-choice defender for us next season. After all, we have Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez as the first-choice pairing in central defence.

Our gaffer must act swiftly to sign Vida before the defender’s value soars more after the conclusion of the World Cup in Russia.
