Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld is ready to run his contract down at the club if he does not get a move to Manchester United, according to the Mirror.
Tottenham are looking to get at least £75million for the Belgian defender. However, United are not looking to buy the former Ajax man for that price.
The report also claims that Alderweireld has set his sights on Old Trafford and is willing to reject bids from any other club this season.
Tottenham do have the option of extending Alderweireld’s current contract by another year. This would see Alderweireld remain at the club until 2020. However, the defender would then have a release clause of £25m next summer, according to the Mirror.
Injuries did play a part in Alderweireld’s season last time around as he only started 13 Premier League matches.
The Belgian is still considered as one of the best in the world and even with a stop-start season, the 29-year-old was selected for Belgium’s squad for the World Cup.
Alderweireld performed admirably for the national side as they finished third in Russia but Spurs and the player have not been able to finalise a contract extension.
The Mirror claims that Tottenham were offering £130,000 a week but the Belgian’s representatives wanted £180,000 a week.
It would be great to keep hold of Alderweireld beyond next season too but if we cannot resolve his contract issues, another club will swoop in.

This is a risky game being played by the club and hopefully, we will come out on top of this.
