Former Spurs man wants team to learn how to win even while playing poorly

Ex-Tottenham star believes Emerson Royal and Ben Davies will continue to be crucial for the team this season.

Former Tottenham midfielder-turned-pundit Jermaine Jenas believes that we have to win games even when we are not at our best.

Spurs went into the Watford clash high on confidence, having beaten Manchester United 3-0. However, we ended up losing at 2-1 Vicarage Road.

Tottenham took the lead in the game but goals from Troy Deeney and Craig Cathcart ended our winning start to the Premier League.

Jenas was speaking on Match of the Day 2 (h/t Football.london), where he claimed that Spurs couldn’t do what Liverpool and Manchester City did at the weekend.

“After that game against Manchester United there was a little bit of talk about contending for the title, or being there or thereabouts at the end of the season. I’ve still not watched Spurs play poorly and manage to win a game of football.

“That’s something you have to do. I watched Liverpool do it this weekend against Leicester. They were poor throughout. Won the game. I thought City were average against Newcastle. Still managed to win the game.”

The former Tottenham star even highlighted the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea and our Champions League exit by Juventus, where we could not get the job done.

Jenas added that Spurs have to change something. Tottenham were great against United but losing to Watford certainly hurts more.

Furthermore, the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool haven’t hit their peak and yet, they have managed to collect maximum points from four games while we are three points behind the pair already.

The international break will give us time to reflect upon this result and we should come back stronger for the all-important clash against Liverpool on 15th September.
