Former England star lists out errors made by Tottenham stars against Liverpool

Mauricio Pochettino of Tottenham

BBC pundit Alan Shearer ripped into Tottenham after the 2-1 loss against Liverpool.

Spurs had lost their last game against Watford and should have put up a better fight against the Reds. However, we were played off the pitch and the scoreline did flatter us a bit. Son Heung-min should have had a penalty right at the end but Shearer was right in saying Liverpool were better than us.

The former Newcastle United striker was quoted by Football.london as he questioned our attitude and listed out a few mistakes on the pitch.

“First mistake by [Toby] Alderweireld, this leads to the goal, again back into the defence, second mistake from [Christian] Eriksen, poor header, Liverpool get the corner which they whip in, third mistake from the goalkeeper, comes for it, doesn’t get it and the other mistake from [Eric] Dier.

“Four errors leading up to that and it was happening time and time again.”

Son should have started

Shearer further questioned Mauricio Pochettino’s team selection as one of our top players didn’t start the clash.

“He played Dier on the right of a three in midfield, he looked very uncomfortable all game.

“If there was ever a time to play Son, he’s won a trophy, avoided national service, he would be on an incredible high and I thought that was the game to put him in.”

The English striker’s criticism is spot on as none of the players seemed up for such an important clash. Liverpool were streets ahead of us and we were lucky to only trail by a couple of goals before Erik Lamela scored the consolation.

Tottenham have to play better than this to win the tougher games this season. And based on this showing, a trophy seems out of sight too.
