Jose Mourinho has taken a swipe at Antonio Rudiger’s role in Son’s red card
Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho aimed a sarcastic dig at Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger for the player’s role in getting Son Hueng-Min sent off in Tottenham’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea. (h/t The Sun)
Son was sent off after he kicked out at Rudiger after a coming together in the second half. Mourinho feels that the German defender made most of the contact, making it seem worse than what it was. In classic Mourinho fashion, he went on to wish Rudiger a speedy recovery (h/t The Sun).
“I hope that Rudiger recovers quick from the broken ribs.”
Describing it as a critical moment in the game, he seemed to suggest that the incident warranted more of a yellow card than a red (h/t The Sun).
“If he does nothing and the ref immediately gives a yellow card to Rudiger for a foul, then I don’t think he will have a reaction. “
It’s a bit fanciful to suggest that the incident impacted the result, as Spurs were nowhere in contention at any point prior to it. If anything, Chelsea took the pedal off and kept the scoreline respectable.

With the loss, Chelsea have strengthened their grip by opening up a 5-point lead over Sheffield United.
With Son now suspended for three games, we will be without a key player. With Lamela also out, we hope Le Celso and Sessegnon can step up and ensure we don’t lose sight of that all-important fourth spot.
