Transfer News: Agent delivers hammer blow to Tottenham Hotspur in Lautaro Martinez pursuit
Speaking to FCInter1908 via Football Italia (h/t Evening Standard), the agent of Lautaro Martinez clarified that the Tottenham Hotspur transfer target is happy at Inter Milan and wouldn’t fight to leave the club.
A report by The Times (Subscription Required) on Sunday sent Spurs fans into a frenzy as it mentioned that a fee above £60million had been agreed between I Nerazzurri and the Lilywhites for the 23-year-old superstar.
However, Martinez’s agent, Alejandro Camano, has come out to clarify that his client is happy at Inter Milan and is content with playing in Italy.
“He’s never going to fight with Inter to leave the club. Never. Lautaro is an Inter player and he’s happy in Italy… Lautaro is happy at Inter and in Italy. His decision is to stay.”
Lautaro to stay?
That has done little to douse the fire, however, and the report mentions some alternatives lined up by Inter to replace Martinez and Romelu Lukaku. The likes of Edin Dzeko, Duvan Zapata, and Anthony Martial are all seen as viable replacements.
The Belgian striker is, of course, close to sealing a move to Chelsea in a deal worth £97million. And according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, that sale to the Blues has strengthened Inter’s resolve to hold on to Martinez.
Spurs fans can be cautiously optimistic about their striker situation this season. The report by The Times (Subscription Required) mentioned that Martinez is to be signed as Harry Kane’s partner, not replacement.
