Transfer News: Juventus set to enter contract talks with Tottenham Hotspur target Paulo Dybala

In what comes as a blow for Tottenham Hotspur, a report by Italian outlet Tuttosport (h/t The Scottish Sun) claims that Juventus and Paulo Dybala are set to enter contract discussions next month.

The Argentine international has been linked with a move to the Premier League recently. Manchester United and Tottenham are the two names associated with the attacker in that regard. But it seems that Dybala has had a change of heart. He looked set to leave the Serie A champions in the January transfer window as reports stated that contract talks had stalled between him and the club.

That, however, looks set to change with Juventus wanting to enter into contract discussions with the former Palermo man as soon as next month. And he could be offered a whopping £8.7million annual wages.

Staying put

That is a significant increase from his current salary package where he takes home £6.5million every year. Spurs came close to signing Dybala in 2019 but it seems their long-standing interest will turn out to be futile.

His current deal expires in the summer of 2022. So, if contract talks don’t go well and a new deal is not agreed, then he could be available on a cut-price transfer at the end of this season. (h/t The Scottish Sun)

Harry Kane’s future continues to be uncertain for Tottenham and Carlos Vinicius is also scheduled to return to his parent club in the summer. In such a situation, Spurs would need reinforcements.

But it seems they would have to look at other options with Dybala potentially on the verge of extending his stay in Turin.

Injury has plagued his season and caused inconsistency in form. But his pedigree and quality are in no doubt. He would be a world-class signing if Jose Mourinho somehow manages to get a deal across the line.
