Luis Enrique eyeing Premier League club amidst Tottenham Hotspur and Napoli interest

Former Spain national team head coach Luis Enrique is eyeing a job in the Premier League amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Napoli in his services.

The ex-Barcelona manager has been on the radar of the North London side for some time now. However, the 53-year-old is also on the radar of Partenopei, with Luciano Spalletti deciding to step down after winning the Scudetto.

But speaking to Rai Sport (h/t Evening Standard), Aurelio de Laurentiis, the chief of the Naples-based club, has revealed that while they did talk to Enrique, they feel he wants to manage in the English top flight.

“We discussed [joining Napoli with Enrique] but I can tell you that he has Premier League clubs in mind.”

This is an encouraging sign for Tottenham. We are yet to appoint a permanent manager after parting ways with Antonio Conte. The Italian head coach abandoned charge of the North London side a couple of months back now.

Since then, we have had his assistant Cristian Stellini take the reins. Unfortunately, the 49-year-old was unable to turn things around at the Lilywhites.

Ryan Mason has been the leading voice in Spurs’ dugout for the past few weeks. While we have seen a few positive results, inconsistency has marred the ex-midfielder as well.

Enrique is one of the biggest names available at the moment. The Spaniard has managed teams like AS Roma and Barcelona. At the latter, the gaffer even won the treble in his debut season in charge.

During the 53-year-old’s time with La Furia Roja, he was unable to win any major silverware. However, the 2010 World Cup winners played some attractive football and a lot of youngsters broke into the team.

After trying out conservative managers like Conte and Jose Mourinho over the last few years, we seemingly need to shift focus. Hopefully, Tottenham will take the lead and bring Enrique to North London as soon as possible.
