Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp wants the club to show the necessary ambition by keeping Luka Modric at White Hart Lane.
Redknapp is currently battling to keep the 25-year-old at White Hart Lane after he expressed a desire to play Champions League football next season.
Chelsea is the Croatian’s preferred destination but have, thus far, had two bids of £22m and £27m rejected.
Modric has since handed in a transfer request in order to force through a move but Redknapp is determined to keep his prized asset at Spurs claiming it would send out the wrong message if he were to be sold.
“He [Modric] has a fantastic contract but maybe he sees the chance to win the Premier League and play in the Champions League,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News.
“He sees it as a big opportunity for him but we want to keep him as well, he is a top player for us.
“We have to show the ambition to keep these players, your Lukas, your Rafas, your Gareth Bales.
“If he [Modric] goes, he weakens us and if you start to letting your best players go who knows where we will finish up.”
