Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has assured goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes that he will get games during the season.
Gomes has lost his number one spot to new arrival Brad Friedel, with the American taking over from the Brazilian in the Premiership.
The former PSV keeper is understandably unhappy with the situation, but was expected to start in last night’s 0-0 draw against PAOK.
However, Italian Carlo Cudicini deputised for ineligible Friedel and the former Chelsea goalkeeper impressed during his 90 minute outing in Greece.
Redknapp has confirmed that the 40-year-old will reclaim his place for Sunday’s league encounter against Liverpool, but has assured Gomes that he will get another chance to prove himself against Stoke City in the Carling Cup next week after admitting he changed his mind about Cudicini starting against PAOK.
“Yes, Carlo played well, but Brad Friedel has been fantastic,” said Redknapp.
“At the moment, in the Premier League, Brad has the jersey. I think he’s been magnificent. I’m lucky. We’ve got three top goalkeepers here.
“I just changed my mind. I thought it would be better for Carlo tonight.
“Gomes will get games. I will play him at Stoke in the Carling Cup next Tuesday.”
