Andre Villas-Boas is set to react to Tottenham’s failure to finish in the top four by having a summer clear out in anticipation of a host of new recruits coming through the door, or so say the Mirror anyway.
Those unlucky ones on the list of departures is said to be headed by the eccentric Emmanuel Adebayor and the hit-and-miss Clint Dempsey. Gareth Bale is set to join them, although that is through no choice of the club and he is being lured by the mega bucks and the prospect of playing in Europe’s elite.
Don’t panic ladies and gents of north London, your Portuguese prince has a few names up his sleeves to replace your current lads.
Amongst those are Hulk, who netted an impressive 36 goals in 53 games under the gaffer when they were at Porto together, and another goal-gobbler in David Villa. The Barcelona man is Spain’s all-time top goalscorer and has been highly linked with a move to White Hart Lane over the last few months.
Another potential replacement for the high-earning Adebayor is Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke who has shocked us all at how easily he has taken to life in the Premier League. The 22-year-old scored 23 goals in his debut season after moving from Genk and is likely to be following the money to the capital.
Whoever comes in, Spurs fans will have a lot to talk about over the summer.
