They say the Premier League is one of the most physical topflights in world football, and if that’s so then it’ll be interesting to see how this chap gets on should a move transpire. The Express are reporting that 17-year-old Alen Halilovic is again linked with Tottenham this January – despite the best efforts of his father, with a £17m deal being lined up. But who is he?
The Dinamo Zagreb playmaker stands at just 5ft7 and has the slightest of frames, but what he lacks in physical presence he more than makes up for in technical ability. The teen is as nimble as any on the ball and the speed of his feet is incredible. He has the capacity to run at defenders, drop a shoulder, reel off a trick and make a number of opponents look silly.
His composure in front of goal is something that would be welcome at White Hart Lane, as is his delivery from set pieces. The thought of Andros Townsend down one flank and Halilovic down the other may not appeal to some old school supporters, but beefed up by Paulinho and Sandro in the middle and the tricky attackers could run riot.
Zagreb have struggled in the Europa League so far this season but Halilovic hasn’t let it affect his personal game. He has completed 2/3 of his take ons and completed 86% of his passes, as well as chipping in with some defensive duties.
I for one would love the little wizard in the topflight, if only for the sight of him running at lumbering defenders such as Phil Bardsley or Paul McShane.
