Chadli Out and Defour In – What I Make Of This Prospect

published :

Not only has this season been one of transition for Tottenham, but it’s also been a tough one to watch on many occasions for the Spurs fans. The sacking of Andre Villas-Boas, the derby losses and the limp attacking unit that were on show are just a few lows of the campaign so far. There is plenty to be cheerful of though, with the club in the knockout stages of the Europa League, strikers who are starting to score and a league position just two points outside the top four.

The vast amount of signings that have come in over the summer has to have taken its toll on the north London side as the players got used to the league, and to each other, but it could be that there will be further reshuffles this month as Tim Sherwood looks to put his own stamp on the club.

A wise move? I’m not so sure.

Reports from the Daily Star say that Porto’s Steven Defour is a target for the White Hart Lane side, while summer signing Nacer Chadli could be on his way out, with the same paper reporting that he may have to leave to secure his place at the World Cup.

If the above is true, then I will be very sorry to see the Belgian leave the club, but I will be massively excited to welcome his compatriot, Defour.

Chadli has impressed me the most out of the summer incomers – he has played 13 games and created 17 chances for Spurs, but there are plenty of other options in the squad who can take up his position.

Defour however is a central player who can be deployed in a holding position or further out to the right, so he already wins in terms of flexibility.

Although he is small in stature he has the heart of a lion and will never let a loose ball go, a big reason why he is so hard to beat.

He has a 90% pass accuracy from his five Champions League games this season and has won 80% of his tackles, so to bring him in could a very good piece of business indeed.
