Tottenham seem to be facing a lot of competition for the signing of Marseille forward Michy Batshuayi. The London side were in the running to get the signature of the 22-year-old Belgian but they do face competition from another Premier League club, West Ham United.
Slaven Bilic’s team would have a lot of extra revenue to spend thanks to their new stadium next season and Spurs would not want to be involved in a bidding battle with the other London club. Spurs also would not be able to guarantee a starting spot to the Belgian star and they could be looking to move for another star in Breel Embolo.
The Swiss teenager played for Basel last season and did well for the side. Embolo scored 13 goals in all competitions for the team, though he did play in a number of different positions. The 19-year-old is also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder and that would certainly be an interesting proposition for Spurs’ manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentine manager has been in the market for a player who can provide support to Harry Kane as a second striker or even play in place of the English star as he looks to rotate the side in the non-league matches or even in the Champions League.
The one problem that plagued Spurs last season was a lack of quality players in the squad and Embolo could well give them the option they have missed in the striking department. Embolo does seem built for the Premier League and even has the pace to trouble the best defenders in England.
Not only that, the 19-year-old is a composed finisher for his side and although his goal scoring record isn’t that great, he does seem to be less erratic in front of goal compared to the Michy. He also has the knack of being at the right place at the right time, his movement and timing of the runs is another plus point which should certainly make him an attractive option, not only for Spurs but for any other clubs who are thinking of singing a quality forward who can get better with experience.
Embolo though would be a better option than Batshuayi, not only due to a lower price for the Swiss star but also for the talent he brings to the table. He would be an incredible signing for Tottenham as they look to push on from last season and with his performing consistently for Basel over the years, Pochettino might just have another young star waiting to break out next season.
