Spurs need to act swiftly in the transfer market to give the new signings enough time to settle to life in London as Pochettino’s men gear up for one of the most important season in the lilywhites’ recently history. With Champions League in midweek, the squad needs strengthening, not just in numbers but in quality to provide competition for the first team players. This will also be the Argentine’s first outing in the Champions League and it will be interesting to see his tactics when the beloved Spurs come up against the Europe’s best.
Midfield is the one area which needs upgrade to the existing options but the most important position which needs increase in number and in quantity is the striker position. Harry Kane is one hell of a striker but he can go out of form or may need rest from time to time and the options available at this moment like Heung Min Son and Christian N’jie are just not the answers to Spurs’ aspirations.
Many names are being linked from forwards around Europe like Vincent Janssen, Breel Embolo and Michy Batshuayi. The one that is being circulated in the papers is of Germany’s 28 year old striker, Max Kruse. It is being speculated that a deal is going to take place between Spurs and Kruse’s club Wolfsburg very soon and Kruse has reportedly handed in a transfer request and wants to leave the German club as soon as possible. He was not selected for the Euros because of a theft of a huge sum of £60,000 from a taxi after his poker stints.
Kruse has a lot of experience in the Bundesliga and his biggest strength is his versatility as he can play on the wings and as a forward effectively. He has a good long shot and his positioning is like that of Kane. He likes to link up and create chances for his teammates and is also decent in the air. Even being a striker, hid crosses are immaculate and also his dribbling ability has improved with age. His defensive contribution though, is disappointing and if he wants to have an impact at the lane, Kruse needs to improve on that which is one of the most important traits in a Pochettino team.
Kruse won’t cost a lot of money and at 28 years of age, has a lot of experience behind him to cause a real impact in the league. This deal can help both the parties and Harry Kane can have an able partner to share his workload with. Kruse has Champions League experience too which can come handy for the young players in the squad. The German can complement well in the Spurs squad and can become a success under Pochettino.
