The Three Lions have been knocked out of the of the European Championship after a humiliating 2-1 defeat to Iceland. This time, England were considered as the title challengers, but due to the horrible performances of the players they faced one of the biggest shocks in European Championship history.
The English skipper gave his side the lead in the fourth minute of the game from the penalty spot, but two goals in 12 minutes by the Icelanders turned the match in their favour, and they managed to hold the scoreline till the end.
Just after the elimination, their 68-year-old manager Roy Hodgson stepped down as England manager. The Englishman was heavily criticized due to his squad selection before the beginning of the tournament.
“I’m extremely disappointed, of course, about tonight’s result and ultimately our exit from the competition,” Hodgson said.
“We haven’t progressed as far as I thought we were capable of, and that’s obviously not acceptable. I am actually proud of the work that my coaching staff and I have achieved in our time at the helm with England.
“They’ve been fantastic and done everything asked of them. When I arrived, I was told that players didn’t turn up to play for their country or would pull out at the last minute. But I have not seen any of that. Their commitment has been unquestionable.”
Now, Tottenham’s fan were overwhelmed after the squad for the competition was announced as there were 5 players from the side, who were picked up by Hodgson. Even after having a great season, the stars failed to prevent the side from humiliation.
Here, we let you know how did the Tottenham’s stars get on at Euro 2016?
Kyle Walker-
The 26-year-old played 3 out of 4 games for the side and averaged 80% of passing accuracy. He was a strong figure in the defence as he won 63% of his average duels. He missed the 2012 Euro due to a toe injury, but he did a pretty good job this time.
Danny Rose-
The 25-year-old full-back made 3 appearances for the side in the tournament and averaged a passing accuracy of 87%. He gave an impressive display of his skills and was quick in his deliveries. He was also pretty good in defending as he won 57% of his average duels (also won 7 out of 9 take ons) and also averaged 5 defensive actions per game in the competition.
Eric Dier-
After a fantastic campaign with the Lilly-Whites, a lot was expected from the 22-year-old midfielder. He assured his authorities in fine fashion by scoring a 25-yard free kick, but failed to prevent the lead. He averaged a passing accuracy of 89% and also won 62% of his average duels. The 22-year-old has also made more interceptions than any of his team-mates. Dier was arguably one of the best players for the side, and it is really sad to see him flying back to his home.
Delle Alli-
A lot was expected from the 20-year-old midfield sensation, but the former MK Dons superstar failed badly. He played every single game for the side but was unable to score any goal. He had 82% of passing accuracy in the competition. The attacker was played just behind Harry Kane and was expected to serve the striker with some deadly balls, but he was unable to put any concrete impact on the tournament.
Harry Kane-
The 22-year-old striker started 3 games for the side but was unable to score a single goal. But he cannot be blamed alone. He needed a better service, but the side constantly failed to provide any. All-in-all, he had a frustrating tournament.
Tottenham’s men did a resolute defending but were unable to put any impact through their attacking third.
