No one would have thought that it would come down to this. Well, the rumoured clouds will always stagger the European football, but sometimes the rumours do become a reality. Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is currently working to bolster his squad to avoid excessive fatigue to the current players. As the London club will be entering the Champions League tournament, the manager will have to add some experienced figures to guide the young Tottenham team.
So far, Pochettino has finalized the move for Kenyan international Victor Wanyama from Southampton, and has also completed the signing of 22-year-old Vincent Janssen. Now, according to the recent reports, it has been revealed that Pochettino is now targeting the unsettled Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze.
Gotze, who denied the possibilities of moving away from the Allianz Arena a few months back has received a shock as the newly appointed manager Carlo Ancelotti stated that he offer no guarantee on Mario Gotze’s future. In an interview, he said:
“While he is a Bayern player I will treat him as such,” Ancelotti said. “I spoke with him one month ago, it was a private conversation and I won’t say what I said to him.”
The German heavyweights have recently signed Renato Sanchez and this too has put Gotze’s future in doubts and if a right offer is placed, he might move away from the club. Now, many reports are suggesting that his former club Borussia Dortmund too are in the race to sign him, therefore, Tottenham will have to act fast if they tend to sign the player first.
Gotze, who scored the only goal in 2014 World Cup final is known for his versatility and due to this, he can be used on multiple positions; be it in the flanks or in the center. Besides midfield, he can also lead the lines as a false striker.
Signing Gotze would be the best thing for Tottenham over the years as the player is capable of guiding the young lads to the glory. His experience in the top flights can be used extremely well. The major problem after signing him would be the positioning. One of the current first team members will have to give away his position because let’s face it, you cannot bench Mario Gotze at Tottenham.
As stated earlier, he can be used in various positions, and there, Dele Alli, Eriksen or Lamela will have to sacrifice their game time. During his time at Dortmund, his manager Jurgen Klopp used him as a central attacking midfielder and was given the license to track the field up and down and while playing for his country, his coach Joachim Löw used him as a false 9.
The 24-year-old German is an all-around package as he can offer some bag full of goals and can also help the side to create them. Gotze will bring a completely new dimension to the squad and his addition would only bring a sense of optimism. It is easy to say that Gotze will bring a good luck charm to any team he joins and Tottenham is no exception here.
