We cannot say what Tottenham achieved last season was just due to some handful of players. The entire team worked cohesively throughout the campaign and it was the hard work and dedication of the players, which ended their season on a comparatively high note.
But besides the players, it was the wonder of their Argentine gaffer Mauricio Pochettino and his total mind games that made it possible.
The reason behind playing the pre-season games is to bring the players right back to their shape. Now, the path has grown tougher for the club as they will be hosting some big and exciting Champions League nights and they need to bring a proper balance in the team to compete with the big Guns. The midweek games usually affect the players’ performances solely due to the excessive fatigue and to avoid that, they need to reinforce the squad.
There were many players last season, who played more than 45 games in all competition for the side, but thye cannot take that risk going into the new season. Yet, we certainly believe that there are some players, who could do wonders even after the congested fixture pileup. So, here we give you two players, who could play a key role for the team next season:
-
Toby Alderweireld-
The 27-year-old Belgian defender, who played every single game in the Premier league for the side was unarguably the best defender in the Premier League. The 6ft 2in defender scored four goals for the side and also bagged 2 assists. A member in the PFA team of the year possesses a great strength and has all the qualities to drive the team up on top.
Besides that, thanks to a wonderful time with Ajax and Atletico Madrid, the 27-year-old has a great experience of playing top brand of football and that could really help the side. Toby, the most consistent performer for Tottenham, formed a great partnership with his fellow countryman Jan Vertonghen and helped his side to achieve the best defensive record in the Premier League, with only 25 goals conceded from 34 games.
-
Victor Wanyama-
The new arrival at White Hart Lane has come up with a lot of expectations on his shoulders and thanks to his brilliant work rate and we certainly believe that he could cope up the burden. Wanyama, a 25 year old Kenyan, is not known for his goal scoring prowess or even for creating many chances, but his presence on the field is worth mentioning. He provides a guaranteed steel for team’s defence while the full backs make their forward runs, hence, the manager could blindly trust his abilities.
We all are aware of the kind of football Pochettino played last season, hence, it is safe to say that Wanyama is the perfect man, who will play a major role for the side. His muscular built allows him to haunt the oppositions fiercely and with a player like Eric Dier to his support, the Kenyan could work wonders next season.
