It is safe to say that the London club Tottenham Hotspur are taking very cautious steps in the transfer market, as so far, they have only concluded two transfers, namely, Victor Wanyama from Southampton and Vincent Janssen from AZ Alkmaar and now, if the reports are to be believed then the team are edging closer to sign the 21-year-old Marseille attacking winger, Georges-Kévin N’Koudou.
Now, very recently, the Argentine gaffer has stated that he expects more signing at the club besides N’Koudou, hence, it will be an interesting sight to see, who the manager opts.
“I expect some signings in the next few weeks — we’ll see what happens. We expect some activity, yes,” Pochettino told a news conference.
It is expected that the team needs an experienced centre back to compete, but the manager stated that he is happy with his current centre back options, and therefore, it is now clear that we might not see any major signings in the defence department.
“Jan Vertonghen is in London but he is training very well now. He’s very close to coming back. Wimmer, Alderweireld and Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama can play centre-back. And then young players like CCV [Carter-Vickers] and Ball. We have enough players in that position.”
With that being said, it can be expected that a new midfielder might make a way to the White Hart Lane, and according to the reports from Talksport, the Lilly-Whites have joined Liverpool to sign the highly rated Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic from Inter Milan. Tottenham recently lost out in the race to sign Newcastle midfielder Wijnaldum to Liverpool, hence, it is understood that the manager might find an alternative to fill the boots.
But should Tottenham really go out to sign Brozovic?
The Croatian isn’t the most prolific player in the industry, but he is known to control the tempo of the game. Brozovic, 23, has always been compared to Barca legend Xavi only because of his style.
The 23-year-old believes in possession and could really spark the side with his extravagant vision. The player is known for his long range shooting, hence, he can also be compared to his International teammate Luka Modric, the former Tottenham midfielder. Ever since, Modric left the club, the Lilly-Whites have badly missed a midfield general in the team, therefore, Brozovic could solely fill the boots.
Thanks to his versatility, he could play at a number of positions, namely, defensive midfield, attacking midfield, central midfield and even as a right winger. However, besides all this, the Croatian lacks one thing. He is not the most physical personnel on the field and is not too good in tackling, therefore, he might have to work like a horse in the Premier League, but given his wonderful work rate, he could adopt the style in no time.
It is understood that the future of some midfielders like Tom Caroll, Nabil Bentaleb, Ryan Mason and Nacer Chadli are in immense doubt, hence, the manager will have to fill the gap if the aforementioned names leaves the club.
