With Tottenham engaged in the speculation regarding Clinton N’Jie and Georges-Kévin N’Koudou, a crazy rumour from nowhere came surrounding the White Hart Lane doubting the future of Tottenham’s star man Erik Lamela. According to the reports, the Argentine was heavily linked with a move to Marseille last summer, but the 24-year-old attacker denied all the rumours and suggested that he is focused on his future at the club.

After a wonderful season in the Premier League, the Lilly-Whites are looking to build their squad as Champions League football is knocking on their doors. With that being said, the first and utmost task the manager did was to bring the reinforcements in a couple of areas which needed some attention. Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama has been brought to the club to compliment Eric Dier in the midfielder and Vincent Janssen has been bought to give Harry Kane a much-deserved competition for the place.

The next thing the club did was to secure the future of their star men as they are now preparing new and improved contracts for the players, namely, Danny Rose and Eric Dier. On the other hand, Erik Lamela has denied all the rumours regarding his exit and stated:

“Ever since I came to Tottenham I have always heard that I am supposed to be leaving,” Lamela said. “It is the same every summer, I do not know why.

“From the beginning my focus has always been on Tottenham, even when things did not go as planned at the start.”

“I have never wanted to leave or thought about leaving. I enjoy playing for the club and get on well with all the players, the staff and supporters,” Lamela added.

“I feel a big connection with the club and especially the fans who have always supported me so much.”

There is no secret that the Argentine is one of the most coveted players in the Tottenham squad and could play a big role in the upcoming season. Even though he had a difficult start to his Tottenham career, he always looked forward to improving himself. The Argentine still hasn’t reached his peak in the Tottenham’s jersey, but we are pretty sure that he could play a very vital role in the squad going forward.

The 24-year-old is known for his pace and his trickery, which easily haunts the opposition and along with the players like Eriksen and Alli, his influence in the game can be observed to a greater extent. What the player lacks most is his work rate. No doubt that he is an obvious threat in the attacks, but when it comes to defending or pressing, he hardly makes any contribution.

Lamella uses his pace to create space for his team-mates and this is the reason he creates so many chances. Taking the example of last season for an instance, the Argentine scored 5 goals in the Premier League, but wrapped up an impressive nine assists. He loves to exploit the opposition defences at times and through this, the team could easily gain a benefit. What makes him a danger man to mark is his well-timed runs and this sometimes gives a positive result. Lamela is an important asset to the team and even though he needs to work on some of his attributes, he could still become one of the best for the club in their history.
