After a wonderful campaign last term, the London side Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to build on their form for the upcoming season. Well, it is safe to say that this time around, the players as well as the manager will have to work out of their skins to get the results, as we all are aware of the fact that the competition in the league has reached its peak.
So far, the Lilly-Whites have been very discreet in terms of transfers as they have only signed two players, namely, Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen and were speculating the situation of Marseille’s 21-year-old attacker Kevin N’Koudou, but if the reports are to be believed, then the negotiation has fallen off due to some reasons.
Now, according to the reports from the Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur, along with Arsenal, Liverpool and Southampton, are currently interested in signing Charlton’s wonderkid Ademola Lookman. The 18-year-old attacker signed a long-term deal with Charlton earlier this year, but the same source has stated that the player might come in a fee of around £2m.
All the aforementioned squad reportedly sent their scouts to monitor his performance, and hence, it is understood that the player has marked his impression on them.
Who is Ademola Lookman?
The 18-year-old Ademola Lookman started his footballing career with Waterloo FC, a youth football club based in the London Borough of Lambeth, with whom, he spent six years. Eventually in 2014, the 18-year-old joined Charlton’s academy and progressed through their youth ranks. After some impressive performances in the team’s U18 and U21 sides, Lookman was awarded his senior debut for the side in November 2015 against MK Dons.
Just after a month later, the 18-year-old scored his first goal for the club against Brighton & Hove Albion and 10 days later, he scored his first brace in a 2-2 draw with Bolton Wanderers. Although he hasn’t been playing for the senior side for long, he has marked a positive impression on the big clubs of the Premier League. In his very first season with the club, Lookman made 25 appearances and scored five goals.
Valley manager, Karel Fraeye praised Lookman for his excellent strikes after the Bolton draw when he was quoted saying: “Lookman finished two brilliant attacks and we had some more, but our finishing was not good enough. That was the way we could hurt them and that is the way we should have continued.”
Style of Play:
Despite coming from non-league, the 18-year-old has got the flair every youngster would wish to have. Lookman is capable of playing as a centre-forward as well as a winger, hence it is expected that his finishing would turn world class some day. Besides that, just like many players from the industry, he loves to take on the defenders and beat them with his pace.
He is a direct runner of the ball, who possesses a blistering pace and is a pure threat when launching a counter. He is also known for his body balance which allows him to take sharp turns when on the ball and this makes him an apple of the eye.
Capable of using both the feet, Lookman is also very effective while deployed on the wings, from where; he loves to cut inside to take the shot. He certainly is the player, who could change the course of the game, but what he needs is a perfect mentor and Mauricio Pochettino might just be an answer for him.
Lookman isn’t the most finished article in the sport, as he needs to work on many aspects like his delivery of the ball and his aerial techniques, but all in all, he is a star in the making. Only a league like the Premier League could help a player to reach his heights, and to make it better; joining Tottenham would be the final cherry on the cake.
